This is a one speed winch - actually I would rather have two speed -
anyway, which way do I move it? I will try that out. I guess I
should move it 30 degrees or so in the direction of the wrap.

Thanks - and you are correct.

Actually, this is a new boom - but, I did this set-up with the old
boom and kept using the original line jam device - though, a more
modern line stopper would be better - to save knuckles.

Yes, a line stopper for the main this also comes in handy especially
when hoisting the sail using the old method of hauling it up by hand!

On my old boom, I had the outhaul which fed out of the boom just like
the reefing lines. I wish I still had my outhaul here since it is a
lot easier to do everything standing at the mast.

I also I had made pre-tapped holes for cheek blocks in case I ever
had to do an emergency reefing set-up - if, for example, the lines in
the boom were pulled through or whatever.
