What is this list?
This is a list for owners and fans of Baba, Panda, and Tashiba sailboats
to exchange information, ideas, opinions, and stories.
Why is it at ballreich.net?
That's a long story, but due to events beyond our control, the baba list
needed a home in a hurry and ballreich.net was already set up to host it.
Is this a permanent home? We don't know. As owners of cruising boats we
should know that it's the community that matters, not the location.
Hopefully if it moves again, there will be plenty of notice.
How do I subscribe?
To subscribe to this list, send an email to majordomo@ballreich.net with
the words "subscribe baba-l" as the message body. The software will send
you a message with a line containing a confirmation code. Send another
message to majordomo@ballreich.net with this line as the body of the
message. This confirmation is to insure that no one subscribes you to the
list without your permission.
How do I post messages?
Just send your message to baba-l@ballreich.net. (If you send it to
majordomo, you'll get an error.)
How do I unsubscribe?
To unsubscribe from this list, send am email to majordomo@ballreich.net
with the words "unsubscribe baba-l" as the message body. If you're still
receiving emails after 24 hours, please contact the list admin at
owner-baba-l@ballreich.net and we will fix the problem.
I didn't subscribe! Why am I receiving emails?
Because of the "emergency" situation that caused the old list to be
moved, there wasn't time to notify everyone and have them subscribe to
the new list in an orderly fashion. A list of email addresses was
collected and this mailing list was started with those addresses. Some of
those addresses may have belonged to people who no longer wanted to be on
the baba list. If this is the case with you, please accept our apologies!
Contact owner-baba-l@ballreich.net (giving the address you received the
message with) and we will get you off the list right away.
How do I know if I'm subscribed to the right list?
If you are receiving emails with the prefix [Baba-L] in the subject, you
are on the list. If you're not sure, send an email to
owner-baba-l@ballreich.net and we will check for you.
What if I have a problem or a question?
Please contact owner-baba-l@ballreich.net with any questions or problems.
What do you do about bounced messages?
It depends on the type of bounce. If we get "unknown user" type bounces,
we remove the email address from the mailing list immediately. If we get
"mailbox full" bounces, we will wait a several days before removing the
address.
Why did I get a response with all kinds of "Command not recognized" messages?
You probably sent your email to majordomo instead of baba-l. Remember,
the correct address is baba-l@ballreich.net. The majordomo address is
only for subscribe and unsubscribe commands.
How do I change the address I receive messages at?
The quickest way is to unsubscribe from one address and resubscribe using
the other. Another way is to notify owner-baba-l@ballreich.net and we
will make the change for you. This may take a couple of days so please be
patient.
What about privacy?
We get stupid amounts of SPAM. We hate SPAM. We feel that awful things
should be done to SPAMers. We will never share your email address (singly
or in a list) with anyone for any reason other than to move the list.
However, we do not take responsibility for what others may do with
messages sent from this list. You should also know that your email
address will be visible in the archive which may make it vulnerable to
harvesting. We take many active steps to prevent spiders from accessing
these pages, but the potential for harvesting exists on any email archive.
What about copyright?
Our policy is that the copyright of messages on this list is wholly owned
by the poster. However, by posting on this list the poster grants that
other members may quote their messages, in part or in whole, in this
forum only. Use of messages outside of this forum, for any reason, must
be arranged with the original poster. Neither the owners of this list,
its server, or the software on that server, nor the ISP hosting this
list, take any responsibility for the use or misuse of information posted
here.
My ISP seems to think baba-l emails are SPAM.
Some ISPs take a very draconian approach to bulk email (which includes
legitimate mailing lists). It is the responsibility of the user - not the
owner of this list - to make sure that mail from this list is not
blacklisted by the user's ISP. Most ISPs will add a sender to a whitelist
at the request of a user. Not all are so accommodating. In particular,
users on AOL or MSN may have difficulty keeping listserv emails from
being blacklisted. To these people, all we can suggest is to look for a
new ISP. We will do our best to keep SPAM off of the list, but as a free
service we can't deal with other ISPs.
Is there an archive?
Yes. http://www.ballreich.net/hypermail/baba-l/summary.html
I'd prefer a different format.
We welcome any and all suggestions, but this list is managed in our spare
time and simply keeping it running smoothly is about all we have time for.
