Alan,

Did you try unscrewing the stripper arm on top of the winch and changing
where it starts to peel off the line? This would be a simple, quick
solution to try before getting into the winch pad.

I have the same problem with a two speed self-tailer. Changing the
stripper location will only solve the problem when turning the handle in
one direction but not both.

The pictures you posted show how you altered the reefing lines. What a
great idea! From what I can see it looks like you have them coming out
of the goose-neck and down to a double block than back up to the mast
mounted winch. Did you abandon the original line jam device under the
boom? I guess you must have a stopper for the main halyard so it can be
taken off the main halyard winch for the reefing lines.
