I also use Cetol but "just" on the gun'l. This leaves the cockpit and
hatches as varnish (Schooner) which have covers to protect them while I'm not
sailing. One touch up coat of Cetol in the spring and I'm good to go. The varnish
takes much more detail work through the year althouh I think I have struck
on the perfect balance with this IMHO. It's been 10 years and I am really
surprised at the little amount of maintenance Cetol requires. As to the comment
about paint....yes it is opaque and a bit 'orangy' looking. A tradeoff I
welcome for the ease of using a scrubbie once in the spring. I can oogle over the
varnish in the cockpit and get OC over a much more managable area.
