Ahh, this topic is "exhausting".
We have a Groco Series K head with a vented intake loop. All hose was
replaced a couple of years ago and the vent got replaced simply because it
was there in the first place. Our solution to making it work was to put a
little piece of duct tape over the intake vent when we are stationary or to
use the head while underway, and pry the little piece of tape up when not
using it while underway. We keep the vent because we too have had siphoning
in the head when heeled over before, and it was REALLY UNPLEASANT to clean
up...
As for hose runs: the hose originally ran under the sink but was difficult
to maintain - that is, get it out and beat it on the dock with a hammer evry
couple of years. We ran the replacement hose to the bulkhead between the
toilet and the shower (on a Panda 40) which keeps it out of sight but easy
(maybe not quite the right word) to maintain.
