I ordered my SR161, from Milltech Marine, Monday and today, Wednesday,
it was waiting for me at the post office. Everything but the whip for
the antenna arrived safe and sound. The antenna (3' stainless whip) was
wrapped around the edge of the shipping box and (surprise) didn't
straighten out without some help. Otherwise, though, all is well. I
even verified my serial/USB converter will pass the 38.4 kbs data stream
(although the stream can be slowed down at the receiver).
Unfortunately, we're too far from Philadelphia to hear any AIS data so
all I could do was watch the receiver report its operating frequencies,
output baud rate, and firmware version. The next step is to head to the
boat and try things out there. At this point it looks as though I'll
need only a few minutes to lay everything out long enough to test the
planned integration and the rest of the installation job will be just
stringing wire.
Cheers,
Rick Emerson
