Early in our family's 19 month Caribbean cruise in our Baba 30, we were
motor-sailing into about 6 to 8 foot seas and frequently dipping the bow
thru some steep waves. I noticed a lot of water going into the bilge and
realized that our Perry bow scoop was letting water in thru the anchor hawse
pipes (we have two since I added a second one and split the anchor locker so
we have two anchors ready on the bow rollers). The drains are too
restrictive and both join in a T and then drain to another below the water
line thru-hull which all drains too slowly. I even cut out most of the
grid of the drains to speed things up. I thought that scuppers in that area
might be in order.

On that passage with all the pounding and smashing going on, we managed to
soak a lot of stuff stored under the V-berth. I recall it destroyed a lot
of stuff including my wife's stethoscope and BP cuff since she had her EMS
stuff stored there. We resorted to stuffing and covering the hawse pipes
with plastic bags and then putting on the caps to keep most of the water
out. I can't recall coming up with anything that worked better. Anybody
else tried something else?

Water from the anchor locker also goes by the compression post step which is
made of steel on our boat. It shows some signs of corrosion now and I was
thinking of replacing it with a fabricated stainless step so it is the same
material as the post. Anyone tried anything there?
