Rick, Chuck and others,

Do they have to be "essentially historical pieces"? I also drive a 1986
Volvo wagon that gets about 30 mpg combined driving but not really any
expressway. (We still call that one the "new Volvo". Don't get me wrong,
even I have older vehicles than that one, too). I also have (salvaged)
mortise locksets in almost all my doors of my home. My house is held up
with heavy timbers not studs hidden in walls. I love my old tools, and if I
can get an older fitting that is made of high quality materials to work
properly, I will do it. I suppose that is the essence of my ownership of my
Baba 30 and also our wooden boat. But if they can't be made to work
properly, that is another story. I will give it a try to refurbish one of
mine and let you know how it goes. It may not happen until next spring
though. That way I can launch the boat and test the results. A bigger
problem for me is ACCESS to seacocks. Thanks for everyone's input and...
