FWIW, the seacock for the heat exchanger for One With The Wind's
refrigeration failed during winterization last fall, while OWTW was in
the water. The handle moved but the ball didn't. I was able to move
the ball very close to the closed position. I backed that up with a
very short piece of hose filled with 3M's 5200 and capped with a barb
with a cap screwed onto that. The whole mess was then surrounded by
hose clamps. End of problem until the following spring, when the boat
was hauled and the ball valve was replaced. In between, I learned that
many of these valves can be disassembled, at least to some degree. But
most of these valves, despite their cost, are essentially disposable
items. Tapered valves, which can be disassembled and lapped in to
recover from wear, are, AFAIK, essentially historical pieces.

Cheers,
Rick Emerson
