If the boat was standing up and slowed down to about a knot or two I
think you probably had it about right - you might need to steer to
windward and lock the wheel/tiller. I think I've read a description
of a boat hove-to as fore reaching at 1 - 1.5 knots - and that seems
to be about how my boat responds.
What were you expecting that didn't occur?
