We get up to 22 foot tides in Mexico and have intentionally - and
unintentionally - careened with them. As the boat settles on the bottom, the
bow will drop down first, putting the deck on about a 10 or 12 degree angle.
This is because the bottom of the keel is not parallel to the waterline - it
raises to forward. If you put it up against a wall or a "grid" up in the
Northwest and Canada, the hull will move against the support as the tide
runs out - the bow will drop down while the stern stays put. The general
solution to this seems to be to place a support under the front of the keel.
