It seems like a quiet and reflective time on the net so I will float out a
question, slightly recast from before, about stern anchors. How do people do
it? We have a 25 pound Danforth which we set, when absolutely necessary
(tight anchorage and others have a stern anchor set), by dinghy, ours or
someone elses'. The only saving grace of this arrangement is that we can
usually retrieve the anchor by breaking it out and pulling it in by hand, 60
to 200 feet or so of nylon line and 40 feet of chain, hand over hand over
the stern pulpit, and that is a very unpleasant chore. Then the rode piles
up in the back of the cockpit until we have time to stow it away in the
stern chain locker. Does anyone have a different way of retrieving their
stern anchor? Manual windlass? Big beefy guest? Cut the line and replace it
later?
