Ken,

We are having this exact same discussion and would also appreciate any
input. We're noticing a little bit of water on/around the base of the
fitting after a rain. Rick feels it's water coming down the mast with
the wiring. I don't see how that's possible since the mast is
deck-stepped and there doesn't seem to be a way for water to get
through, but I really don't know. I was looking at it this morning and
the thought of getting in there with a dremmel tool or something is
pretty daunting. Do you know if this fitting is an extension of the
polished compression post in the head or if it's a separate piece?

Harris Gabel replaced the lifelines surrounding the cockpit on Always
Lucky with stainless steel tubing creating a stern pulpit that
completely surrounds the cockpit. In addition to giving a wonderfully
secure feel, it has fittings for his solar panels as well as a lifting
davit. It's much nicer than an arch. Maybe he could take some photos?
