I was at Dana Point. I did a little shake down run from Long Beach to Dana Piont in preparation for the Ensenada race.

We've had the same problem. We wrap a towel around the rode and secure it with tape. We then adjust the line so that the towel is against the bobstay. It does a pretty good job of getting rid of the noise. Another solution that prevents chafe, but which won't do much for the noise is to get the largest plastic shroud cover from West and put it over the bobstay. If you put a wire tie on the stay a couple of inches from the bottom, and make sure that the cover sits above the tie, it will let the water drain properly and won't create any rust issues.
 
Where were you anchored if you don't mind my asking?
