The nautical solution is to make a bridle with two thimble eyes that shackle
to a chain stop hook. This way the strain is taken to the Sampson post or
the port and stbd cleats via the bridle and there is no strain on the chain
between the gypsy and the chain hook.

We've had the same problem. We wrap a towel around the rode and secure
it with tape. We then adjust the line so that the towel is against the
bobstay. It does a pretty good job of getting rid of the noise. Another
solution that prevents chafe, but which won't do much for the noise is
to get the largest plastic shroud cover from West and put it over the
bobstay. If you put a wire tie on the stay a couple of inches from the
bottom, and make sure that the cover sits above the tie, it will let the
water drain properly and won't create any rust issues.

Where were you anchored if you don't mind my asking?
