The only thing I agree with that the "Pro" advised is to create a single
house bank and one starter battery. I believe this is a worthwhile
configuration. I would suggest reading page 35 of Nigel Calder's new
"Boatowner's Mechanical & Electrical Manual" it uses your exact
configuration as an example. The entire chapter on batteries is outstanding
and puts the subject in understandable terms. If this was my problem I would
disconnect two of the 6v batteries and see if you can isolate a bad battery.
The Link 2000 is a good product - I don't have one but wish I had decided to
use it. I installed Ample power EMON monitor and controller. It is archaic,
not user friendly and a royal pain to program. The Link is far better unit.
Is there a jumper that needs to be repositioned in order to equalize? I have
a friend with a Valiant 42 and Link 2000 who I will be seeing today. I'll
ask him about equalizing using the Link. Discussing boat electricity is like
talking about religion. Few preachers agree on the same philosophy. I have
decided on worshiping the teachings of Calder/Wing. Charlie Wing is the
author of "Boatowner's Illustrated Handbook of Wiring". Their writings make
this controversial subject easier to understand and you will end up with a
better grasp on your own boat's electrical system than the alleged "Pro". To
give the Pro a shred of credit it would take him a long time to figure out
what was done on your boat before he can even start the trouble shooting
process. This is all at your $$ expense.
 
After reading the above two books I can't believe TaShing ran a #10AWG wire
to feed the entire main panel. I can't believe what I did to rewire my
electrical grounds before I knew anything about this stuff. These are all
mortal sins according to Calder/Wing :)
