Poster board works very well for making templates of irregular structures. That is what I used to make the template for the plywood insert on the propane locker hatch.

I may not explain this very well but what you can do is to cut pieces of poster board that conform to individual angles and so forth, then tape them together into one big template. Flooring guys do this when installing vinyl flooring. Then use that to make the piece you are looking for.
