To clarify, annoying as I find the business of the tank, chain plates,
and winches, as I said earlier, I can think of other boats with worse
problems. A dock neighbor just had his aluminum holding tank (now
there's a case of inappropriate materials!) replaced after it rotted
through. And this in an Island Packet.

The real lesson here is that Taiwanese boats are, for the most part, not
built by sailors (cheap labor doesn't own boats). Things that a sailor
would look at and say "that'll never work at sea" get by. There is, of
course, the pressure of building to cost and certainly every boat will
always be filled with compromises. No surprises there. But for Baba
owners and prospective Baba owners, looking at the boat with the
understanding that there are things which are simply not seaman-like,
even if they are very well made and executed (e.g., the marvelous
stainless steel vent loop... on the toilet intake line) will go a long
way towards assessing what's there and making appropriate plans.
