My introduction to "burning cork smells" was when OWTW's original tranny
died in the harbor of Solomons Island (MD). A sample was pumped into a
plastic soda bottle and taken ashore to Zahniser Marina's service
manager, who took one whiff and said "dead." The rebuilt tranny would
have run $1K more than a new tranny - end of discussion.
