Forgot to mention - we bought our Yanmar with mated transmission from
Bosun's Locker in Costa Mesa, CA, (via the Internet) and had it shipped to
Tucson, Arizona where we picked it up and smuggled it (oops, imported it)
into Mexico. The cost for a four cylindar engine plus tranny was $8200 and
shipping was about $300. Except for engine bed mods, the rest of the
procedure was pretty straightforward, the new engines come with wiring
harnesses and instrument panels which cannot be connected incorrectly. The
rest is reconnecting the exhaust, morse cables, fuel line etc. all probably
originally at a different location on the old engine. Ordinary humans can do
this - we had never replaced a diesel engine before and managed to do it
anyway - and in a third world country... Engine, shaft, new coupler, and
egine bed modification total came to about $9600.
