While designing and building our trailer, we made it so the 3-axle set was movable as a unit on the main trailer frame. I used my "best judgment" for the initial loading of the boat on the trailer and ended up with about the right amount of tongue weight. I designed it so even the bow support was fully adjustable but my welder had other ideas so I had to do that part over myself.

The fellow that pulled my boat and trailer over 5000 miles said it worked well except that the tongue flexes a bit due to it's length and he wished it was a gooseneck design. I did not got with that option since, back then, I was thinking of getting a small boom truck for my business and it would not accommodate a gooseneck trailer. I fantasized about being able to not only tow the boat and trailer anywhere in North America, but even step the mast myself. Never happened though.

    I measured my Baba 30 today and the height from the bottom of the keel to the top of the mainsheet traveler is about 10 feet 8 inches. The width of the keel is greatest on the forward portion and is about 12 inches wide. I have the keel sitting on about 3 blocks of wood about 3 inches thick so I can still fit the traveler's straps under the keel.

    With my boat on the trailer it is about 12 feet high! I have a mast carrier on the port side of the trailer so I don't have to have the mast on the top. I verified B Perry's info that the keel bottom "starts" about 16 feet aft of the bow (stem). It is quite a load but my trailer has about 6,000 miles on it now.....I think that is even more than we have sailed it!
