Thanks for the link Dave! That's really useful.

I think you may be correct that the tank is aluminum. After cleaning
things up a bit and looking closer, we can see a lot of pitting and
corrosion on the interior. Also, the baffle is poorly made and it looks
like some other compromises were made in the construction. We've decided
to play it safe and have a new tank made (also of aluminum). Are there
any special issues with bonding an aluminum tank that we should know about?
