Also a good idea to wash down the chain as it comes in - if it's in the
water long enough, it can become the home of little shrimp, oysters, and
other stuff which smells just awful when it dries out in the chain locker.
We plumbed a pressure-switched DC pump under the head sink, using the toilet
sea-water intake, and ran a hose to a recessed thru-deck hose bib fitting.
Works fine for keeping the chain free of organic and mud debris...
