Laura,
On our old boat (Hans Christian) we purchased new foam from A-1 Foam and
Fabrics in Santa Ana, CA along with some new fabric for the covers. They
cut the rough shape during purchase and we cut the angles ourselves using a
knife. Sure glad that the fabric covers a multitude of mistakes in the
cutting. It turned out well. We used several different densities or
foams. For seat cushions, we used Q40 (lifetime quality and quite dense).
Anything more dense is too hard. For the berths, we used Q20. A good
pillow top would have added a lot of comfort. We recommend also bagging the
foam before you slip it into the new covers. A bag helps make the job
easier as foam doesn't like to slip against fabric. Also, the bag helps
keep moisture out. The bagging material can also be bought at the fabric
shops.
Now, we will be doing our new Baba 40 within the next year or so. Lessons
learned will come in handy on this next job. Good luck.
