I was shocked today to receive mail from a private company offering to renew
my FCC marine radio license-for only $260!

I've been cloistered in my cell setting at this computer the past five years
and did not notice government regulatory changes. I still naively thought
renewal was just sending in my $50 (or whatever) once again to the FCC.

So, my question: is this the only way to renew FCC shipboard radio
licenses-by going to private companies and giving them a lot of bucks to
handle the non-paperwork?

I just did a very quick check on the internet and find a competitor asking
only $160 dollars. Can't I just send my own $50 or whatever) direct to the
government anymore?

Help! What happened-am I just getting too old as the world slips out from
beneath me?
