Hi All,

I just cleaned and re-varnished the engine box and companionway ladder
on Mandisa. I used two coats of Crystal Gloss (for protection) and
covered that with one coat of Epifanes Rubbed Effect. I've never used
this before and I was expecting something about halfway between gloss
and satin. What I got was a finish almost as shiny as gloss. This is
kind of pretty, but very different from the finish on the rest of the
boat's interior.

I thinned the varnish to a workable (slightly thick) consistency and
applied it with a clean, high quality brush while stirring continuously.
The previous coats were fully dry and had been lightly sanded (220).

Does this sound normal to folks who've used this varnish before?
