Hi Cherie!

It sounds like your refit is moving along like ours is. I'm currently
redoing the SSB installation.

We have the same Jabsco bilge pump which we had to replace because the
bearing went out. You're right, it's very expensive. However, it can run
dry without harm and it can pull water up from the deep bilge under the
engine which a lot of the other pumps can't do. If it's original, it
probably does need to be rebuilt, but check to make sure that the pump
itself is what's leaking and not the hose fittings. We had some bad hose
fittings that needed replacing. We also found that the hose itself would
crack if bent so we replaced it as well.

We will probably add a second (smaller) bilge pump (with back-flow
valves) to get the last inch or so that the Jabsco doesn't get.

The other big bilge-plump issue that we need to address is to
replace/rebuild the manual pump. That looks like it's going to be a fun
project!
