Harvey,
I do not know what wheel drum Kevin Fleming is offering with his vane
now, but we opted to use one from Aries. It is a superior design to
his original one. Take a look and compare.
In addition, instead of one continuous line operating the vane on the
Fleming drum, we have two; one for port, one for starboard. And,
there are two small line stoppers installed on the vane platform
which hold the outer ends tight. The lines each have a knot at the
wheel drum end, and are pulled through from the wheel drum, to the
vane, and then the stoppers. So, it is much easier to tension the
lines rather than by tying knots at the vane end. And, when the vane
is not being used, the lines stoppers are just released and the lines
pulled out and stowed.
The original Fleming drum had the single line captive. You could
untie the knots at the vane end, pull the two ends in, and hang the
whole thing on the drum in the cockpit.
Is this still what he offers?
