Hi Alan and Harry,
By some accounts the continental navy might have wreaked havoc if it hadn’t
been for crew's fondness for a drop of British rum; here is a BBC link to
the event

Harry I have thought about fitting a rope cutter to Lady Stardust, but had
the naive idea that the long keel and enclosed prop would offer a lot of
protection, now you have me thinking. I just got back from Kinsale down in
Co Cork, the Baba is sitting there and on Monday we sail down to Portugal,
where I believe there are many pots and nets awaiting me.
Still I'm glad you made it back ok, that must have been scary.
Cheers,
Paul C

Captain John Paul Jones of the Continental Navy
raided Whitehaven spiking the guns in two
batteries and burning a collier. This was the
first raid on an English seaport since 1667.
Luckily, Jones avoided the crab pots, but, then
again, his ship had no proprietor.
