I tested out the voltages and it seems that the cable in the mast may be bad.

But, the replacement cable is over $160 -- if you can believe
that. I may as well buy a whole wind instrument.

It is only 4-conductor wire with shielding - and anchor instrument
wire is pricey as well.

So, I found this cable 22 AWG 2 pair shielded at homtech.com for .34 a foot.

Any thoughts? Scroll down the page and you will find this wire. They
also have similar monster cable at .99 a foot.
