Contrary to popular wisdom . . . I really liked having the original
schematic . . . It showed me the original vision and helped me visualize how
I was going to take the wiring to the next level . . . and finally it was a
great jumping off point for creating a up to date state of the art color
coded schematic . . . by combining the original with its simple wiring with
the wiring schematic of a sophisticated set up and bingo you have a game
plan for a remodel . . . also one suggestion . .. when you are drilling your
holes for your cable runs . . . drill them as large as possible . . .

I hate to say it, 'cause it's not a fun job, but the best bet really is
to use a buzz box to find your way through the wiring. You can flip
breakers and watch lights to see much of what's happening but if you
know there are mods in the wiring, it's already too late to rely on a
diagram which is only an approximation of what's in place.
