Rick/Rich,

What boat cover guys use is called Anfil Polyester thread. This is a thread
specifically used in outdoor applications and is UV treated. Nylon is a no-no
as it starts out stronger but degrades in sunlight. Standard Polyester also
will degrade UNLESS it specifically is UV treated. I suspect that the
Gore-Tex thread is UV Polyester with the Gore-Tex brand name applied to extract more
cubic $ from us. I would try to use a 69 weight thread but if you are using
a home machine it might be difficult.

Rochford Supply in Minneapolis will steer you in the correct direction. They
have been doing this kind of thing for many years. They have Sunbrella,
stainless/aluminum tubes and fittings, thread, Eisenglass (tinted or not) in
different weights, etc...and will sell to the public not the trades only.

Really great place to get sewing supplies. It also is a great place to go
poke around. The owner sometimes gets colseouts from the rag trades and winds
up with some interesting "buys" on whacky stuff.

Good luck on the dodger.

Regards,
