We've had some rough going at sea including at least three knockdowns, with
the mast in the water. No floorboards or hatch covers ever popped out. This
is not to say it can't happen-it just didn't happen in all our experiences.
No extra provisions were provided for locking them in. Also, varnished cabin
soles were never really a slipping problem even wet. At sea we generally
were barefooted and walking (what little was done), with the boat heeled,
most of the time was placing feet adjacent to the uprights along the sole.
And of course, there is always one hand for the boat...

For off-shore - the sole get's pretty slippery.

I have thought of doing one of the following:

1. Reversible boards with non-skid:

2. A separate set of boards for off-shore: or

3. Sprinkle non-skid grit in the varnish.

Also, anyone figure a good way to fasten the
boards down IN A BABA 30 for heavy weather sailng.
