This recalls an experience that could have been disastrous on my own (ex =
now) 1979 Baba 30, which I perhaps should pass on.
Failure of the saloon dome lights on the port side was eventually traced =
to a burned and shorted 12v wiring run passing close to the stove =
chimney attached to the head bulkhead. Whoever installed the chimney =
would be unable to see the wiring and the potential danger unless he/she =
removed the narrow headlining panel between the ceiling beam and the =
bulkhead, which had not been done. The unprotected original wiring ran =
on the forward side of this beam and therefore a couple of inches at =
most from heated metal. Although a flue spacer existed between the =
headlining and the roof, heat clearly accumulated at that point. As luck =
would have it, no fire resulted.

Subject: [Baba-L] Smoked Baba
I have a unique question; I hope someone might be able to offer some =
insight. I am interested in a Baba 35 which is for sale. The dealer =
tells me that two years ago the boat's diesel heater somehow vented into =
the cabin. (A relative of the then owner somehow did this) It turned the =
cabin totally black, according to the dealer. The radar and vhf had to =
be thrown away do to the smoke damage. The current owner removed the =
diesel heater. The boat was purchased at a discount and the interior was =
then cleaned and areas painted, it took about a year according to the =
dealer. Now it is up for sale.
When I viewed the boat it was clean inside and out. Is this a reason =
to stay away from this boat?
If you have any insight your comments are welcome.
Matthew
