Is the steering pedestal model "ManShip"? This is the original TaShing
installed steering system aboard Gray Eagle and it looks very much like an
Edson knock-off. I have not come across the throttle/shift lever tension
adjustment under the compass but always thought there should have been one
there. When I replaced my cables I had the same problem with the throttle
closing down while underway - it would not stay where I put it. As a quick
fix I installed one of those "C" clamps over the jacket of the throttle
cable. I agree this is not a good long term solution as it damages the
jacket and as you mentioned causes wear of the cable. I wonder if Edson's
cable tensioning mechanism will bolt into our steering pedestal. This would
be the correct fix for this problem.

Has anyone fitted the nice polished stainless Edson control handles to a
stock TaShing pedestal? I believe the threads on all the ManShip models are
the British Whitworth thread standard.

There should be a (throttle/shift) lever tension adjustment in the quadrant
beneath the compass. This is what I have used on several different models of
wheel steering quadrants. In fact, I just recently made this adjustment on
our Panda 40 and previously on our Baba 30 and before on...

Clamping on the cable is a poor practice since it leads to chafe and wear on
the critical cable and doesn't allow for continued consistency in
resistance.
