Cindy,
I am aware of the size of the files with attachments. I use HP free software
that resizes all images to be emailed. Is this an acceptable practice? Let
me know.

Subject: [Baba-L] Admin - attachments to baba-l emails
Hi folks!
About a week ago someone's email bounced because of an attached image.
Today, Dave successfully sent an email with several attached images! Why
did this happen?
The baba list config limits message postings to a maximum size of 500000
characters. This includes the text of the message, all quoted text, and
all headers. Since this group tends to quote pretty liberally, I've
found that this limit is high enough for most messages. However, it's
NOT high enough for most images. Postings that are above this size limit
will be bounced to me by the software and won't go to the list.
So why did Dave's images get through? First of all, Dave trimmed most
the text out of his email - no quotes at all! Secondly, he used very
compressed images. I didn't check, but I believe the entire message came
in just under the size limit.
Are attachments a good idea? Probably not. Even though the list accepted
this one as a reasonable message size, some users have limits on the
size of messages they can receive that are lower than the list limits
and they won't get this email. A better idea is to put images or files
on a web site and link to them in your email. If you don't have access
to a web site, you can send the files to me and I'll put them on the
ballreich.net web site and send you a url that you can include in your
email. I know this dampens the spontaneity of the moment, but it will
make it easier for everyone to read the message.
Is Cindy going to be a list Nazi and crack down on attachments? No. I
just want to make sure that everyone knows what's going on and what the
potential problems (for themselves and others) may be.
I hope this is helpful in some small way.
Cindy
