White LED's produce a "cadaver" white light, not the softer, more
comfortable, light of incandescent bulbs. Just before flying home
from Australia I saw some new "Warm White" LED's, both in fixtures
and rope lights. They were on display next to the regular white
LED's. They are much better in color and are close to incandescent
bulb light. A great improvement.
On reaching Los Angeles I went to Light Bulbs Unlimited, a specialty
store in West Los Angeles. They had not even heard about the new warm
white LED's. If you are should contact Sailboatstuff, ask if they
know of the new warm white LED's, and if so, would they be supplying
them. If anyone on the List knows or hears of them being available I
would appreciate knowing. I too, would like to switch over the dome
lights. I have tried several different white LED's, including the 18
white LED's, and really disliked the stark white light. They were
discarded, and were not cheap. I will wait for the new ones to be
available in a similar fixture to the Baba dome lights - or retrofit
the existing fixture if the new LED bulbs will fit.
