Mandisa came with a "home style" single hole faucet that was seriously
broken. Since the galley counter was drilled for a 4" double hole
faucet, we used the "marine" faucet that they sell at West - ugly, but
it fit. Everything about it was plastic except the spigot. It lasted
about a year and I replaced it with the same thing. The second one
lasted about three months. Fed up, I went to Home Depot. They had the
exact same faucet that West sells, except that everything except the
cover was brass. (They call it a laundry room faucet.) For the same
price as West! However, my head was turned by the glowing array of
fixtures. (If you've ever read "Trout Fishing in America" you'll know
what I mean.) The very patient man in the pluming department went over
all the pros and cons of my situation and I finally settled on a
off-white (bone) single hole, all metal unit with a built in sprayer
from American Standard. Very pretty. The plumbing attachments hang about
10 inches below the base of the faucet which should make hooking it up
MUCH easier than the previous efforts.
But now Richard C. has caused DOUBT to enter my heart!!
We'll see how it goes. At least the water should be going into the sink
instead of into the bilge!
Actually, before we discovered the source of the water in the bilge, we
thought that the new - and very expensive - dripless packing gland was
dripping as badly as the old one. We were actually quite pleased that it
was just the cheapo faucet leaking!
