Cindy,
Our trip across to Hawaii from Cabo was a little early in the season-March.
Seas were rough and winds strong for the crossing. It turned out to be about
nineteen days as I recall. No engine and sextant only days. We left Hawaii
the end of June and ended in Alaska-Glacier Bay-about twenty days later.
Then we spent until the first of October slowly cruising down South East to
Puget Sound. I heartily recommend this as a long distance cruising trip for
anyone on the West Coast who only has a year to cruise. It encompasses just
about everything one would find in a good cruise with only two
relatively-mild ocean passages. This is a superb round trip. Subsequently,
we have sailed to Hawaii about four more times from various locations around
the Pacific including from Japan and Marquises. We like Hawaii very much but
find the Islands not real comfortable cruising grounds. Hawaii is good as a
jumping off point for locations beyond and a very pleasant stay-over
location. I spent a few years flying in the Islands and was very familiar
with most coves and out of the way spots at all the islands, from the air.
Getting to them by boat sometimes is not so nice. So we just hunker down in
our boat in a desirable location and enjoy our days and nights in paradise.

Cool!! How long did this take? And what time of year did you do it?
Did you spend much time in Hawaii? I've heard mixed reviews about it as
a cruising destination.
