Just replaced my Volve MD11 that was in my Baba 30 sailboat. I replaced
the Volvo with a Universal 23. The gear ratio is 2:1. The new prop is
an Right turn, 3 blade with at 12 inches. It replaced a Left turn, two
blade, 15 inch prob. I didn't anticipate the change in props when
replacing the engine. Also, the Volvo had the 1.5 inch exhaust system.
I had to upgrade all that to a 2 inch to make sure the engine was under
warranty. The engine replacement, other hose and exhaust replacements,
new mounts, etc, the total cost came to around $12,000. I think I saved
about $3,000 by doing some of the work and being the gopher.

30hp. I have seen from baba adverts that I won’t be the first to do
this, but I would like to know if there are any issues involved with
this move. Can anyone recommend a good gearbox ratio and prop size that
works well on a baba 30?
