Actually, this one's pretty simple. Semco says, on their cans, their
product may soften some caulks. In the case of the Tashiba, there was a
skin of seemingly solid caulk but underneath it was a nasty viscous
goo. The Tashiba owner used Semco frequently. I'd say that's pretty
clear evidence for Baba, etc. owners to pass on this stuff.
