I have a teak hatch cover (sliding hatch over companion way is under)
that needs to be refinished on our Baba 30. Size is approximately
30"x30".
The cover may also need to be recaulked and we suspect that we are having
some rot underneath.
I have two concerns: Can I just remove the screws
holding it to the cabin top and will it come off easily or is it glued
topsides and needs to be pried off?
I suspect that there is marine plywood underneath that is beginning to rot
as we are seeing small pieces of wood left on the sliding hatch cover
especially after someone has stood on the wood cover.
Any suggestions appreciated. BTW, a marine carpenter gave me an estimate of
$2400 to rebuild the cover after being shown a picture of it at a boat show
earlier this year - outrageous!
Any helpful suggestions appreciated.
