Hinayana is insured with Markel American Insurance Co, through
Mariner's General in Newport Beach. My premium is $877 for a $65,000
valuation. This covers coastal offshore use up to 50 miles out in the
Northern California area.

A few years ago I had a docking accident that bent the frame on my
Monitor windvane. It was about $300 more to purchase a new one from
Scanmar rather than have them repair the old one, so I paid the $300.
Of interest was that since I did the installation myself, and they
would have paid labor charges had I had it installed, they agreed to
reimburse me for my time at $45/hour, which more than paid for the
price difference! I would have to say I'm a satisfied customer.

I did have to have a survey in 2004 before renewing, since "Insurers
require surveys periodically on boats over ten years of age to ensure
continued maintenance and to establish current market value and
replacement value". Passed.
