You all may remember several weeks ago that I was noticing a slipping
between engine and prop when I posted the question "what's slipping".
I suspected the tranny and was sure it went out last week when we were
pulling into the slip after an afternoon on Lake Washington. I had to
put it into reverse to adjust my shot into the slip as I had missed
getting it right the first time. Well, after going into reverse I
totally lost propulsion. No forward, no reverse. Fortunately, I was
right next to the dock and there were others around that helped me pull
the boat in manually. I called to schedule a mechanic to come out and
feared the worse. Well fortunately (this time) the place I called here
in Seattle (Gallery Marine) was booked way out on appointments because
this gave me time to do a little poking around myself and today noticed
the shaft appeared to be backed out of the coupling (to the
transmission) about 6 inches! That was great news, as all I had to do
was get an allen wrench set and loosen that coupling and slide the prop
shaft back in. Well I got it half way, but just could not pull it back
in manually. So I figured that when not completely tightened down, the
prop came out, so maybe that will work in reverse. So I only tightened
the two end bolts and started the engine, put it in forward, slowly
increased RPM, and voulior! it was back in. All I had to do then was to
completely tighten all bolts on the coupling.
