Here's a photo I happen to have now. The awning is has PVC pipes (1 1/2")
sewn into them for support and these are held up in tension by the halyards.
If tensioned snugly they withstand some good wind. Just be sure to make the
width as wide or wider than the beam.

I used a light weight awning fabric from SailRite for this set. Can't recall
the name now. Use to always use sunbrella but its a bit heavy and is more
bulky when rolled up. This stuff rolls tight and I just lash 'em to the
lifelines when cruising. Put up and take down is only about 10 min.

David, you will learn quickly that shade over the boat in Houston is a must!
There was a boat in my marina (Legend Point) that had this Shadetree awning.
I did not like the way it pinched the side decks....was a very narrow
affair. I've always just made my own awnings; one aft the mast, one ahead
over foredeck. It really helps keep the heat out of the boat.

I'm on a 35, Flavor, slip W47 at Legend Point...take a look if you are in
the vicinity. I should have the foredeck one back up this Friday.
