Let me try to simplify this process. If you plan on coastal cruising USA
then it probably does not matter what you do; however, if you plan on blue
water, Latin American voyage, it is better in my estimation to have your
fuel split up in small quantities to avoid contamination and permit better
management. The multiple tanks would go right where the old tanks are
located. I am willing to help you design and make these decisions if you
like, it is my hobby and I have done a number of boats always to the owners
satisfaction.

Harvey I wish you well on your project, it can be fun if you make up your
mind what you want up front and are not driven by the boatyard that will, in
most cases, try to take short cuts. If you are fully knowledgeable on how
you want the finish project to function you could have a fuel system, not
just simply a fuel replacement tank.
