This discussion reminded me that my set-up must be "wrong", too. I put a
new vented loop in my head intake and noticed the pump was then very
inefficient and it wheezed as I pumped. I put my finger over the vent and
it pumped better. What I did was run a short hose from the vented loop up
an "extra hole" in the marble counter so when you want to pump water in, you
use your other hand to plug the vent and it works great. I can't remember
where the third hand came from to hang on as we bashed our way through the
waves. Does it hurt to have a vent in the intake?

I am working on getting our boat in again and will have to inspect my whole
system. I want to thank everyone for the input on rigging and seacocks,
too. I think I may totally re-rig this fall and the seacocks are coming
along. I will be working in the head soon. I know I will wish I was a
little Chinese guy with long arms.......
