Hi all. A few months past, I polled the Baba 30 owners to see if anyone had installed a replacement engine for the Volvo MD 11. I thank all of you for your assistance. The replacement has been completed and here are the results.
I considered and obtained the specifications and dimensions of the Volvo, Yanmar and Westerbeke 3 cylinder approx 27 hp engines.
Yanmar: Positives: Good following, great parts and service availability.
            Negatives: Price: $8400.00, major modifications to engine bed, very little room for working on.
Volvo: Positives: Minor modifications required to install. Parts are readily available.
            Negatives: Price: $8150.00, Parts are very expensive. Few installations noted in small sail vessels.
Westerbeke: Positives: Price $7400. (I have a friend who is a Westebeke dealer and sold me the Westerbeke 30B @ cost plus 5% and actually paid $6250 ( this price included the Admirals Panel which has Tach, Oil psi, Water Temp, Amps, Alarms and Engine Hrs.) Only modification required was a minor notching of engine bed under transmission ( This took about 5 minutes), Excellent parts availability and pricing, excellent warranty, automatic fuel bleed.
My neighbor Doug and I did the engine removal and installation in 3 days. It is a great fit, runs very smooth and is quiet. Now just waiting on right handed prop to come in.
Total cost
$ 6250.00 Engine and Panel.
$ 85.00 Shaft Coupler.
$ 495.00 Prop.
$ 450.00 Ancillary Parts
$ 300.00 Boat Yard to haul boat, change prop and re-launch. (This is an estimated cost as reported by boat yard)

$7580 Total cost.

If anyone, in the future, should endeavor such a project, I would very strongly recommend the Westerbeke 30B. It is a simple drop in job.
