While sailing the eastern Caribbean I was very intrigued by the volcanic activity on Montserrat and the nearby submerged volcano, Kick Em Jenny. What fascinated me about the submerged volcano was it was releasing enough volume of gasses that if you sailed over the area, your vessel would lose it's buoyancy (gas bubbles vs sea water) and you will/could sink.

I'm an "old" geologist, too!
