And "It is a sailboat and I can sail it to a place..." is not always a good
policy as the 'place' you're sailing to may not allow sailing into the
marina. As bizarre as it sounds, many marinas do not allow sailing into the
slip and my slap a fat fine on you for doing so. Of course, if you must do
it, a fine is probably the last thing you care about.

I know in our marina, given the funniest-home-video contenders who berth
there, I'm glad it's not allowed.

On at least two occasions that come to mind, I've found that assumption
lacking.  One involved a broken prop shaft (in our Seafarer 26 - probably a
defective shaft, aided by time, a poor design) that failed literally within
sight of the marina.  No wind and no hope of same - we were towed by a
couple in a Donzi (v. interesting to see the Donzi try to stay at towing
speed!).  We have also sailed into anchorages on no engine or at least with
an engine that wasn't going to operate well for very long; it is gratifying
to see it really can be done.  (<--- high irony content [wink])
